Building Teacher Capacity for Stronger Classroom Culture

BE Academy for Girls was preparing for the start of the school year and wanted to establish greater consistency in how teachers responded to student behavior across classrooms. The goal was to build a shared approach that maintained high expectations while protecting relationships, preserving student dignity, and keeping students engaged in learning.

Sean Brown Literacy Consulting partnered with BE Academy during its back-to-school professional learning week to design and facilitate a targeted session on Teacher Response.

Using SBLC's Teacher Response Ladder, educators practiced four intentional responses: Redirect, Reteach, Restore, and Refer. Through realistic scenarios and discussion, teachers practiced responding to behavior while maintaining high expectations, preserving student dignity, and keeping students engaged in learning.

The result was a shared language for what consistent teacher response should look and sound like across classrooms.
