Developed from Dr. Sean Brown's research in Afrocentric education, the Black Literacy Oasis™ helps educators examine the conditions surrounding literacy instruction, not simply the strategies used to teach reading and writing.
The framework recognizes that literacy development is shaped by what students encounter, how they make meaning, the communities in which learning occurs, and whether their intellectual and cultural brilliance is recognized and cultivated.
